Remington R12P Tactical Shotgun
Remington's innovative R12P Tactical shotgun, which will be available later this year, is the law enforcement version of its Versa Max shotgun. The self-regulating, dual-pistol VersaPort gas system allows the semi-auto shotgun to handle any length of shell you can pull from your go bag. Remington has begun offering initial builds of the R12P to law enforcement customers, and will release the gun in the fourth quarter. The gun was introduced at SHOT Show in January. It will retail for about $1,100. View a video of the shotgun here.

Springfield's XD(m)-9 5.25
At first glance, Springfield Armory's XD(m)-9 5.25 pistol may be viewed as a pistol for competitive shooters. The company did indeed seek design input from champion shooter Rob Leatham. However, it's a viable option for police service. It's excellent ergonomics, low recoil, and high cartridge capacity would be especially useful in tactical operations. Read our full "Arsenal" review of the gun.

Kel-Tec KSG
Kel-Tec's KSG shotgun may be the most anticipated firearm of 2011, due to its unusual, innovative design. The high-capacity weapon arrives with twin 7-round magazine tubes, giving operators 15 total rounds when a shell is chambered. The KSG's short barrel and bullpup design give patrol officers flexibility when deploying it from a cruiser. View detailed photos of the weapon, and be sure to read our November "Arsenal" review. Weapon Lights and Laser Sights
Weapon-mounted lights free up the operator to control a handgun or rifle, provide better target acquisition in low-light situations, and offer another less-lethal option to disorient a subject. When added to a sidearm, lasers give officers greater ability to acquire targets and disorient subjects. View this gallery for six options to consider.

Ruger SR40 Duty Pistol
Ruger's SR40 duty pistol may be the first semi-auto from the company that could catch on with law enforcement officers. Ruger introduced the first striker-fired polymer pistol, the SR9, in 2007.
