Over the weekend a Santa Rosa, CA, police officer was presented with a commendation for saving a six-year-old child from drowning.

On Saturday, Aug. 20 the Santa Rosa police received a call regarding a child not breathing. The child was playing in a neighborhood pool, when a family member noticed she was under water. She was quickly pulled out of the pool and 911 was called.

Officer Irfaan Jaleel was in the area of the call and immediately responded. Jaleel arrived within approximately one minute of the 911 call. Jaleel immediately started life-saving measures and began performing CPR on the child. He performed CPR for approximately three minutes before the child started crying.

EMS arrived and took over medical aid. The child was transported the child to a local hospital. She is doing well and is expected to have a full recovery.

“We are proud to have Officer Jaleel as part of the Santa Rosa Police Department family, and we are grateful he was in the right place at the perfect time,” the Santa Rosa PD said on Facebook.
