A man was arrested for attacking an officer with the Elkhart (IN) Police Department late last week.

According to CBS News, the suspected assailant—identified as D'Micah Jones—came under the scrutiny of Officer Jesse Morganthaler after the officer observed the man "rolling a blunt."

Officer Morganthaler asked questions of Jones, but the man refused to supply answers, instead showing him a "green, leafy substance represented to be a controlled substance," according to police documents.

Morganthaler then attempted to arrest Jones and a struggle ensued, police say.

Jones then began to attack Morganthaler, punching him in the face. Morganthaler continued to struggle with Jones and was eventually able to hold him down with the help of a neighborhood resident, police say.

Morganthaler suffered three major jaw fractures requiring emergency surgery, four damaged teeth and possible muscular damage.

Jones is in custody in the Elkhart County Jail facing charges of aggravated battery.
