An officer with the Chicago Police Department was stabbed by someone who allegedly started a fire Wednesday in that city's Northwest Side.

According to NBC News, police say first responders were called to the scene of a fire, and upon arrival encountered a woman who became combative and attacked one of the officers present.

The officer suffered a stab wound to the lower right calf. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to fully recover.

Fire crews extinguished the fire and the woman was taken into custody.
