Police in California found an unsurprising passenger in the stolen vehicle they stopped following a pursuit—the vehicle was a hearse and the passenger was a deceased person encased in a coffin in the rear compartment.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a funeral home driver had dropped off one casket at a church and had left the keys in the ignition and the engine running with another casket in the back. It was then that the thief took off in the vehicle.
Police located the stolen Lincoln Navigator after a Good Samaritan reported its sighting and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle crashed. The coffin was recovered undisturbed at the scene and transported to its intended destination.
