An officer with the Fresno (CA) Police Department who responded to a call of a man choking a puppy in December returned to the SPCA shelter where the dog was housed following the incident to inquire on its condition.

According to KSEE/KGPE, the dog suffered serious injuries in the attack, which resulted in the arrest of the animal's original owner.

The officer waited patiently for two months until the puppy was available for adoption. In that time he had already purchased dog toys and dog beds in anticipation of the reunion.

The officer has renamed the little pup "LEO."
