Two vandalism suspects reportedly rammed the patrol vehicle of a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, sparking an officer-involved shooting and a vehicle pursuit early Monday morning.
According to CBS News, the incident began as deputies responded to a call of vandalism occurring in the city of Commerce near East Los Angeles.
As deputies approached the two subjects seated in a Volkswagen, the vehicle sped up, striking a deputy and a patrol vehicle. Another deputy then opened fire on the suspects, who were not struck and fled the scene.
The ensuing vehicle pursuit traversed several area freeways until the subject vehicle left the roadway and struck the center divider and the two men were taken into custody.
The deputy who was struck was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
