Minnesota Conservation Officer Dies of Apparent Medical Emergency

Minnesota Conservation Officer Shannon “Opie” Barron died late Sunday night after suffering a medical emergency on the job, according to the Red Lake Police Department. He was 48.

An officer with the Red Lake Police Department requested medical assistance at the scene of an illegal harvesting operation on Sunday night.

According to WCCO-TV, other officers at the scene attempted to perform life-saving medical aid on Officer Shannon "Opie" Barron until EMS arrived.

Barron was then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of his death has not yet been released.

Barron is survived by his wife, two children, his aunt who raised him and numerous relatives.
