Robert Vega, 36, is facing two counts of assault on a police officer and a disorderly conduct charge for the incident, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Officers responded to a call of a street fight outside a home. They tried to break up the fight when Vega became violent, shoved one officer, and began repeatedly hitting another in the head. The officer hit in the head was brought to the hospital to be treated for a brain hematoma, a lip injury, and a swollen right hand, officials said.
