Former Boston mob boss James (Whitey) Bulger was sentenced Thursday to die behind bars for his murderous reign as both ruthless gangster and FBI informant, the New York Daily News reports.

The former fugitive, arrested in California two years ago, stared directly at Boston Federal Judge Denise Casper as she sentenced him to two life sentences for racketeering and 11 murders.

“The depravity of your crimes are unfathomable,” said Casper after reciting the names of Bulger’s victims. “The testimony of human suffering that you and your associates inflicted on others was at times agonizing to hear and painful to watch,” the judge continued.
