Officers with the Des Moines (Iowa) Police Department will drive Ford's 2013 Police Interceptor sedan and utility as their new patrol car, following that City Council's approval of the new cars.

The city purchased 23 new vehicles, including 17 Ford P.I. sedans and six Ford P.I. Utility vehicles. These vehicles will replace existing Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. The city purchased them via the state of Iowa's contract at $23,781 per each sedan and $25,530 for each utility vehicle, according to city documents.

Ford recently announced official fuel economy figures for its new vehicles, and both the Michigan State Police and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department completed testing of this year's crop of law enforcement vehicles.
