"Internet to Help Police Track Crimes"

In partnership with the Los Alamitos police, the Los Angeles Police Department intends to introduce next week a system that tracks crimes through the Internet. The program will allow officers in patrol cars to view live video following the ringing of an on-site alarm from a bank or other possible crime target grants access to security camera sites. The wireless network, manufactured by Loronix Information Systems, has already been partly implemented at the Seal Beach Police Department.

Seal Beach Police Sgt. Dean Zanone refers to the system as a "video call for help" and says that officers would not randomly regard possible crime areas. In addition, privately-owned firms would have to subscribe to an alarm system that provides the live video aspect.
