A publication from the National Institute of Standards and Technology details controls that will become mandatory for most federal computer information systems in 2005.

The agency will hold an open, public workshop in March to share comments and discuss possible revisions to the draft, titled Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems (NIST SP 800-53).

NIST urges state and local governments and government agencies to review the draft guidelines and consider using them once finalized.
