Magpul Dynamics Firearms Training

WeaponsPhotos 6

Magpul Dynamics offers firearms training that is in many ways tailored to law enforcement personnel. Magpul instructors teach skill-based firearms training they call weapons manipulation that's designed for "prioritizing efficiency and consistency in mindset, fundamentals and stress conditioning." The courses run the gamut from basic weapons skills to advanced dynamic assault in complex urban environments. Several courses are marked "LEO Only." Photos courtesy of Magpul.

Travis Haley, Magpul's chief executive, teaches shooters to drive their shoulder forward to minimize recoil. Shooting from a prone position requires confidence and concentration to retain accuracy.

During Magpul training, students often team up on the gun range. One shooter moves, while the second often provides a constant rate of gunfire. Instructors emphasize speed and efficiency.

Officers should be comfortable shooting from the supine position, just in case they trip while retreating from a more heavily armed suspect. Taking a shot from the ground with confidence could ensure a safe end to the encounter, so an officer won't need to use that time to stand up.

One training exercise involves students shooting from inside a vehicle. During an armed encounter, a vehicle should only be used for concealment, not as cover, for an officer, says Travis Haley, Magpul's chief executive.

When officers enroll in firearms training with Magpul Dyanmics, they learn about shooting from "urban prone" and other reality-based positions that officers may encounter in a gunfight. Instructors teach the importance of shooting from cover to minimize exposure instead of stepping out into the open to shoot at an armed suspect.

Magpul instructor Chris Costa offers instruction to a student shooting from a prone position behind a barricade of cinder blocks that similuate a curb. The position may be employed during an active shooter incident.
