The Lyons, Ill., police and fire departments are upgrading public safety capabilities with a new software system from Spillman Technologies .

Spillman’s Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) module, Mobile Records module, and other integrated products will enable the Lyons Police Department to better serve the Cook County community, said Sgt. Michael Chapiesky.

Personnel will use the CAD software to track calls in real time and monitor the status of each police unit. Once data is entered into CAD, it will automatically be populated into the appropriate record fields.

With Mobile Records, field officers working on laptop computers can query the department’s database for names, vehicles, and other critical information.

Lyons Police Department Commander Neil Sexton said the department chose to replace its existing software with Spillman in order to remain technologically compatible with state requirements and reporting systems.

“Spillman products seem to fill that void,” Sexton said.

The Spillman system will also modernize the Lyons Fire Department and help the agency integrate its data collection system with the police department’s. Using a Spillman interface, fire department personnel will be able to import data gathered with Spillman CAD into the existing Fire Management software solution.

Lyons Police Chief Daniel Babich said the new software will prove to be a valuable resource for the departments for years to come.

“The new Spillman software will improve public safety response time and communication for the Village of Lyons’ police and fire departments well into the 21st century,” Babich said.

The Lyons police and fire departments will go live with their Spillman system next spring. The two agencies will join 10 other public safety agencies in Illinois and more than 700 agencies nationwide using Spillman software.

“We are excited to welcome the Lyons police and fire departments as new Spillman customers,” said Joe Lunt, vice president of sales and marketing for Spillman Technologies. “We are confident that Spillman will provide both agencies with the resources they need to better serve their urban community.”
