Texas Sheriff Cancels Drone Planes After Fed Feedback

The Collin County Sheriff's Department's plan to buy several unmanned aircraft for surveillance has been grounded, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The department canceled the initiative, after learning the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had designated most of the county as controlled airspace.

The drones would have performed tasks similar to those for which helicopters are used, such as finding missing children or searching fields for narcotics.
