New Jersey Officer Seriously Injured in Range Accident

The incident happened at the Passaic County Police Academy Shooting Range. The officer is currently receiving treatment at St. Joseph's University Trauma Center and is reported to be in serious, but stable condition.

The Haledon Borough (New Jersey) Police Department reports on Facebook that one of its officers was seriously injured Tuesday by an accidental discharge during firearms training.

A spokesperson for the agency reported the incident happened at the Passaic County Police Academy Shooting Range. The officer is currently receiving treatment at St. Joseph's University Trauma Center and is reported to be in serious, but stable condition.

“This matter is being reviewed by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team in accordance with protocol,” the agency said on Facebook.

“We wish our officer a speedy recovery and extend our unwavering support during this difficult time. We thank everyone for their love and support, which is greatly appreciated. The sacrifices and dangers faced by law enforcement officers serve as constant reminders of the challenges inherent in their commitment to serve and protect our communities,” the agency said and declined to make any additional comment.
