Three Fargo Police Officers were shot, one fatally, Friday afternoon while investigating a traffic accident Friday afternoon. The suspect is dead.

Officer Jake Wallin, 23, was killed. The military veteran who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq joined the Fargo Police Department less than three months ago, the Valley News Live reports.

Officer Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes were wounded.

The suspect also reportedly shot at firefighters who were responding to the wreck. None of the firefighters were hit.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski identified the suspect as 37-year-old Mohamad Barakat.

The suspect was shot and killed by Wallin’s field training officer, Officer Zachary Robinson, a seven-year of the department. Zibolski said Barakat was not involved in the traffic accident that the field training officers and their trainees were investigating, MPR reports.

Officer Andrew Dotas is a six-year FPD team member. Dotas serves as an FPD Training Officer. Fargo Police Officer Tyler Hawes was Wallin’s classmate in FPD Academy IV, becoming an FPD Officer on April 19, 2023; he is currently completing FPD field training.
