A new report intended to help police chiefs make more informed decisions about the use of force in their departments has been released by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), in conjunction with Motorola.
“Chief Concerns: Exploring the Challenges of Police Use of Force” is a compilation of successful strategies for reducing deadly force incidents as well as advice on how to handle the aftermath of officer-involved shootings.
PERF staff researched the book by reading literature on the topic, conducting interviews with experts, and holding discussions with chiefs and community leaders to find proven ways to effectively deal with various use-of-force incidents and their aftermath.
The book is the first in PERF’s Critical Issues on Policing series. Additional books will provide insights into other pressing issues facing today’s law enforcement executives.
