LAPD to Deploy Officers to K-8 Schools

In the wake of the Connecticut school massacre, the Los Angeles Police Department plans to have officers visit every public elementary and middle school in the city on a daily basis beginning in January.

In the wake of the Connecticut school massacre, the Los Angeles Police Department plans to have officers visit every public elementary and middle school in the city on a daily basis beginning in January.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also announced Monday that the city's gun buyback day would be moved to Dec. 26 to give Angelenos "concrete action" after Friday's Sandy Hook shooting.

Both Chief Charlie Beck and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced they will increase daily patrols at area schools. Beck said police would make daily visits to LAUSD's elementary and middle schools, and would extend the offer to charter and private schools as well.
