A teen explorer who became involved with the Santa Maria (Calif.) Police officer who was fatally shot by colleagues received $185,000 to settle the case, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The girl was 17 when she became involved with the 29-year-old Albert Covarrubias, who was shot and killed by fellow officers who tried to arrest him at a DUI checkpoint.
The teen claimed in a federal lawsuit that Covarrubias threatened to kill her boyfriend if she didn't have sex with him.
