A Massachusetts State Police sergeant has been relieved of duty, after he released stark images of the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in response to a Rolling Stone magazine cover.
Sgt. Sean Murphy, who is also an agency photographer, surrendered his gun, badge, police ID, and other gear Thursday evening to a sergeant and two lieutenants who arrived at his home. Murphy has not been fired and his status will be reviewed at a hearing next week, repots Boston Magazine .
Earlier Thursday, Murphy gave hundreds of photos from the end of the Boston Marathon bombing manhunt to Boston Magazine, including several images showing Tsarnaev emerging from a boat with a sniper's red dot on his forehead.
Murphy said he released the photos in response to Rolling Stone's cover showing Tsarnaev that the trooper said glamorizes a terrorist.
