Fifteen Republicans voted for the border security amendment, setting up a possible final Senate vote on the bill later in the week, reports The Hill. Supporters have hoped to get 70 votes for the legislation, which faces a more problematic road to passage in the House of Representatives.
The bill as now constituted would provide $4.5 billion in technology and equipment to achieve full border surveillance and funding to construct 700 miles of fencing.
