The Inkster (Mich.) Police Department has requested help from the Michigan State Police for patrol coverage, after budget cuts have caused the loss of 61% of the force in the past 18 months.
The department now employs 25 sworn officers, down from the 65 officers who worked at the Inskter PD in September of 2011.
The department and the Michigan State Police have formed a partnership that allows city police to handle calls for service and the state police to provide patrols based on crime data and traffic safety needs, reports the Detroit News.
