The MBTA transit police officer critically wounded in a shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers vowed to "recover back to 100%" in a blog post released to update the Boston and law enforcement communities.
"I cannot begin to properly thank everyone involved in my recovery, as many fearless individuals stepped up and acted heroically that night," Officer Richard Donahue wrote in the blog, reports WCBV.
Officer Donahue, 33, was hit in the right thigh during the April 15 gunfight that led to the death of Tamerlan and the capture of Dzhokhar. Donahue lost nearly all the blood in his body and needed to be recuscitated after his heart stopped.
"I must thank my brothers from the Transit, Boston, Harvard, Watertown, Cambridge and State Police, as well as fire department personnel and the various other first responders, all of whom put their own lives on the line to save mine," Donohue wrote. "In the midst of a firefight, they dropped to the ground and assisted me when I was shot."
