The men approached the deputy, 36, and a female friend, 23. One of the men raised a pistol and said, "Don't make me kill you," reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The deputy announced he was a police officer and opened fire, killing Antonio Nash and wounding Jordan Hunter and Jamaal Robinson. On Tuesday, Hunter and Robinson, both 20, were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Nash, 18.
St. Charles County Sheriff Tom Neer said the shooting appears to be justified and credited the deputy as competent and well-trained. The deputy is assigned to a federal task force.
