Sheriff Mark Dannels told the crowd of about 25 people that the Mexican cartel is extremely organized on both sides of the border and no one crosses from Mexico into this country unless they pay a member of that organization first.
"[Officers are] not signing up for people to show up at their private residence and intimidate them and their spouse and the rest of their family. That's nothing that our law enforcement officers sign up for," Sen. Luetkemeyer told
"We're cautious. We're absolutely more careful," said First Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police. "This is one of the tactics these anti-government, domestic terrorism groups use. Law enforcement is the face of the government. If you're mad at the government, you're mad at the police."
The FBI started monitoring the group in March when an informer stepped forward to warn of danger against law enforcement. The informant told the feds that the group was trying to obtain home addresses of law enforcement officers.
A criminal complaint said Cortez Lamont Edwards had started a livestream on Facebook September 23, holding in his possession an AR variant pistol firearm. The video allegedly shows Edwards requesting to be paid $30,000 to “shoot Louisville Metro Police Department officers on scene"
Officers with the Buffalo (NY) Police Department will no longer be required to display their names on their uniforms.
"Members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers in performance of their official duties. The purpose of which is to catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject and the subsequent 'shoot on-sight' of said officer."
Officers with the Boston Police Department were attempting to affect an arrest of an individual suspected to be illegally in possession of a firearm when they were surrounded and threatened by a crowd of onlookers.
The United States Department of Homeland Security has issued an unclassified intelligence document stating that personal information about police officers across the country is being leaked and shared online in the wake of the in-custody death of George Floyd in late May.
"Its very concerning, I mean its not just open, blatant threats of murder toward our officers, but also toward families of police officers," said Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police President Rick Snyder said.
