The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office (NJ) made an unusual water rescue over the weekend after they reported finding a dog-paddling Siberian Husky a mile-and-a-half out in the bay off Union Beach.
Late last month, a group of police agencies in New York participated in a two-day training exercise held in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard New York. On Sunday, June 12, at approximately 5:24 p.m. a call came in about several people stranded in water just east of Beer Can Island (Longboat Key) after their boat capsized. The HCSO Aviation Unit first flew over the scene and confirmed a boat was upside down in the water, with several people swimming around it.
The man then walked back to his grey Honda Civic. When Harbor Police officers approached the man, police say he presented a gun.

Officer Charlie Cortez, 29, disappeared after he and Officer Shawn Edge, the 39-year-old boat operator and captain, were thrown overboard shortly before 9 p.m. into the turbulent and 50-degree waters of Puget Sound, according to Everett Fire officials.
