No one was injured during the incident, but investigators found shell casings indicating seven rounds had been fired at the house from a 9mm, and that several of the rounds struck and entered Chief Palmer’s residence.
One reason IMPD says some officers, especially young officers, are leaving the department is because of the patrol vehicles.
Wayne County Prosecutor Mike Shipman's filing indicates that two aggravating circumstances would justify the death sentence.
“Now our troopers will be able to go out and train at schools, churches, and other businesses to let civilians know the best way to respond to an active shooter before law enforcement arrives on scene,” the highway patrol states in a social media post.
“We don’t know how that would go (with another officer). Brev was completely at rest and at ease with that family and he is now residing with them. It seems as though it was a logical fit instead of trying to find another officer that could bond with Brev,” the chief said.
Seara Burton, a K-9 handler for the Richmond PD, was shot and critically wounded Aug. 10 during a traffic stop of a man driving a moped. She was shot after her dog alerted on narcotics.
"So, I grabbed a pot of coffee, and I walked around to tables and started pouring coffee. And what that did was completely changed the dynamics of the conversation."
