Wesley Ruiz, who was in 2008 convicted in the death of Senior Cpl. Mark Nix, died by lethal injection after the U.S. Supreme Court earlier in the day denied his appeal.
Selma Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco Jr. was fatally shot around 11:45 a.m. He died at an area hospital.
Master Patrol Office Clarence "CJ" Williams had been called to help with a traffic stop and foot chase when he suffered a "medical episode" at the scene and died.
Deputy Darnell Calhoun, 30, was the first deputy to arrive on the scene. A second deputy responding to the call found Deputy Calhoun mortally wounded in the street. The second deputy and the suspect exchanged fire and the suspect.
Firearms-related fatalities have claimed the lives of 64 officers in 2022, which mirrors the number of firearms-related fatalities in 2021. Both years represent a 21% increase in firearms-related deaths when compared to the average of 53 firearms-related fatalities from 2010-2020.
"Judge Cara Hutson, my family is devastated. My son was a good man," she said. "My family and Isaiah's brothers and sisters and his community demand your resignation."
Justin McIntire, 46, had served as chief of the small Allegheny County town for four years. He reportedly was running after the suspect when he was shot in the head.
The suspect was convicted of his third strike in November 2021 and should have been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
"We are devastated by the grief of losing Cpl. Hamilton, a deputy who was a ray of sunshine in the OCSO, dedicated to protecting others," says Sheriff Eric Aden in a statement.
