A 19-year-old man pulled over by Clayton, Calif., police for driving a car with expired registration was found with a pipe bomb in his pants pocket, authorities said Thursday.

Washington state troopers shot a man who reportedly advanced on them with a knife after stopping his truck and setting it on fire on a busy bridge Monday night. The man has died from wounds sustained during the shooting.

N.C. Officers Find 24 IEDs in Drug Suspect's Home
One IED was detected on the outside of his home. Officers then started searching the area, where they found 23 more IEDs in a hidden trap door underneath his floor. Half of the IEDs were constructed with enhanced shrapnel called lead shot on the inside of them.
