Monday, September 11, 2017, board members, staff, and supporters of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund gathered at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony to honor the law enforcement professionals killed that day and those who died from subsequent illnesses related to rescue and recovery work at Ground Zero.

If not for the heroic and immediate response of U.S. Capitol police officers who were part of a protective detail on the scene, along with Alexandria (VA) police officers who responded within three minutes of the attack, many other individuals would have been either seriously injured or killed.

A speeding white pickup truck struck and injured two on-duty D.C. bicycle patrol officers and a traffic control aide Thursday night. One of the officers was rushed into surgery Thursday night in very critical condition.
