A gunman opened fire early Thursday on a SWAT team that burst into a home during a drug and gun raid, wounding four officiers while spraying bullets from atop a staircase, authorities said. One officer was critically wounded.

Side-Scan Sonar Identifies N.Y. Crash Evidence
Side-scan sonar is known as a "towfish" — it's a torpedo-like device towed behind a boat. The towfish converts acoustic sound pulses into a video image of the river bottom. To a trained operator, the resulting image offers a photographic view of the bottom that can be used to identify items of interest.

Authorities on Monday said Officer Marc DiNardo's condition deteriorated and his demise was imminent. Lt. Edgar Martinez said the 37-year-old is still in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center.

Jersey City Police Hold Hospital Vigil for Critically Wounded Officers
Police this morning continued to hold vigil at a hospital for two officers critically wounded in a gun battle Thursday. Officer Marc Dinardo was shot in the left side of the face and Officer Michael Camacho was shot in the neck. Thursday's shootout left six other officers injured and two armed robbery suspects dead.
