Friendly Fire: Identify Yourself As an Officer
SWAT officers often respond to call-outs while off duty and driving their personal vehicles. And they often arrive before the rest of SWAT. Thought needs to be given to how identifiable they are when arriving on scene, particularly in swirling, chaotic, life-threatening situations, and especially when there's a chance on-scene officers might not know they're SWAT.

Shot Houston Officers Recovering from Downtown Shooting
Officer Fernando Meza, a two-year officer, was working an off-duty job at the station when he noticed a man with a weapon in his bag trying to buy a ticket. Officer Meza and Officer Timothy Moore, a 12-year veteran, both confronted and exchanged fire with the man, who had two guns.

An early Sunday gunfight involving three Buckeye (Ariz.) Police officers working an off-duty security detail at the El Gran Mercado swat meet in Phoenix resulted in the death of one officer and critical injuries to another.

School Agent Returned Fire with Shot Cop's Gun During NYC Retail Robbery
Anthony Presley, 39, attempted to thwart the robbery in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Saturday night. He was shot in the shoulder. The school agent then grabbed Presley's Glock and chased off the robbers.

When the officer, who has not been named, confronted 21-year-old Jermaine Eason, he identified himself as an officer, showed his badge, and drew his weapon. The incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.
