A Pickens County (Alabama) Sheriff’s deputy was making a traffic stop on Sept. 14 when he saw heavy smoke coming from his patrol SUV. Inside was his K-9 partner.

The vehicle was burning and the deputy responded immediately to get the dog named Zuna to safety.

“I’m proud of the actions of this deputy that ultimately resulted in him saving his K-9 partner Zuna. These are the type of men and women who work for the citizens of this county each and every day who put themselves in possible danger to protect each and every perso…We are thankful that the deputy as well as K9 Zuna are both OK,” Pickens County Sheriff Jordan Powell said on Facebook.
