The National Transportation Safety Board has added to its annual list of “Most Wanted Safety Recommendations to States” a ban on inexperienced drivers using wireless devices behind the wheel.

“Learning how to drive while distracted is definitely a recipe for disaster,” says the safety board’s acting chairman, Mark Rosenker.

Currently, 11 states and the District of Columbia restrict new drivers’ cell phone use.

According to the NTSB, teenagers and other novice drivers account for a disproportionate number of traffic accidents. The board hopes a ban on wireless devices while driving for this group could help bring down these numbers and save lives.
