Divers with the Putnam County (FL) Sheriff's Office were conducting training on a local river when they discovered a significant amount of debris on the riverbed where the exercise was being conducted.
Officers decided to do a little clean-up of the waterway.
The agency posted on Facebook, "Dive training is good for the environment."
The post continued, "Yesterday our marine unit and dive team traveled from Welaka to Silver Glen for training. As part of the training our divers recovered lots of garbage and not all of it was old!"
The agency said, "We love the St. John's River and want those who travel here to enjoy the beauty we are so fortunate to have in our backyard! Summer is starting and we encourage everyone to be courteous of our waterways ... and thank you to everyone who helps by taking a little extra garbage out with them."
