Illinois Officer Killed, Ridealong Injured in Pursuit Crash

A Cowden, Ill., police officer was killed Tuesday night while chasing a vehicle in Effingham County, Ill., police said. A passenger in the vehicle, Jessica Stuckemeyer, 22, was treated for injuries and released from Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Cowden Mayor Lorne Barnes said Stuckemeyer was doing a ride-along to gain experience in preparation for entering the police academy.

S.C. Trooper Driving 100-Plus Before Fatal Accident, Report Says

The investigation revealed Corporal Dana Kevin Cusack was driving a "high rate of speed" at the time of the collision, according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. Cusack didn't have his blue lights on and had not called in a traffic stop to dispatchers.
