SWAT Trained SRO Fired On Maryland School Shooter, Stopped Attack

A school resource officer, Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill, then faced off with the shooter, the sheriff said. The deputy and the gunman each fired one shot simultaneously. Cameron said the gunman later died from his wounds. He said that the investigation would determine whether the round the officer fired hit the shooter.

Former Parkland High School SRO Wanted Accused School Shooter Involuntarily Committed in 2016

The documents in the criminal case against Nikolas Cruz, which were obtained by The Associated Press, show school officials and Broward Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, who has been accused of cowardice for failing to act during the shooting, recommended in September 2016 that Cruz be involuntarily committed for a mental evaluation.
