$100 Million WI School Safety Plan to Address 'Any Threat,' Governor Says

A $100 million plan to improve school safety in Wisconsin is "critically important for students," Gov. Scott Walker said Monday after he signed the bill into law in front of fourth-graders at Victor Haen Elementary School.

"Schools are already safe places in this state," Walker said. "This will help make sure they're even safer going forward."

The legislation, which did not include any gun law reforms, was introduced in the weeks after 17 people died in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, reports the Post Crescent .

The plan will allow schools to apply for grant money to be used to make physical changes to their buildings, hire additional staff, or train existing staff to improve school safety.
