Ruger developed the LC9 as a 9mm version of its Lightweight Compact Pistol (LCP). The LC9 is a DAO hammer-fired sub-compact pistol that works well as a backup for off-duty law enforcement officers. It provides a seven-round capacity and retails for $443. We featured Ruger's LC9 as our "Arsenal" review for March 2012. Photos by Butch Simpson.
Ruger's LC9

The LC9 comes with both flat and extended magazine base pads.

Galco's Front Pocket holster allows you to carry the Ruger in the front pocket of a pair of cargo pants very comfortably while still allowing a smooth, unimpeded draw.

The steel rear sight features dual white dots for fast alignment. Not the bobbed hammer.

Ruger's sub-compact pistol features a glass-filled nylon frame with an alloy insert and a blue-steel slide. The thumb safety, magazine release, slide stop, and take-down catch are all located in the proper places.

The LC9 can be disassembled into its five major components very quickly.

A small cutout at the rear of the chamber also allows the shooter to verify if the pistol is loaded.

A prominent loaded chamber indicator provides both visual and tactile indication of the pistol's condition.
