Since 1984, the National Bike Registry has assisted law enforcement agencies in locating and return- ing stolen bikes to their owners. Now its online service makes it easier to register a bicycle by serial number and convenient for law enforcement to search for a serial number in the event of theft. Participating law enforcement agencies are issued a login and password that allows access to the database for searches. Bikes may be registered through the department or coded registration cards can be distributed that allow owners to register directly with the National Bike Registry.
