In an X press release , the department said that officers were called to the location by a 911 call about a man with a gun in his hand inside a 7-Eleven store.
The caller informed the emergency call taker that the man was waving the gun at people in the parking lot.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the suspect in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.
Police say multiple commands were issued to the man in both English and Spanish to drop the gun. When he did not comply, police shot him.
The “weapon” was recovered by the officers and determined to be a “simulated firearm,” police say.
