A suspect was arrested Monday morning (April 21, 2025) after he reportedly stole a police vehicle in Chandler, Indiana, and drove it into Kentucky.
The incident began around 9 a.m. with a traffic stop. The Chandler Police reportedly stopped the suspect for reckless driving, and ended up in a confrontation with the driver who was wearing motorcycle helmet. Video reportedly from the scene shows the suspect swinging a long, thin object that could be a sword at the officer, News14 reports.
The officer reportedly opened fire and wounded the suspect.
Police say the suspect then got in the officer’s patrol vehicle and drove off.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect continued to travel south at speeds of more than 120 mph toward the Kentucky border.
Daviess County deputies say they received the call around 9:30 Monday morning that the suspect was leading a Rockport (Indiana) Police officer over the William Natcher Bridge.
The Rockport officer pursued the suspect to a field near Maceo, Kentucky. The stolen police car had been wrecked just off the roadway and the suspect fled on foot westbound through the field.
Police say Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies and the Rockport officer caught up to the suspect about 300 yards into the field and the suspect attempted to fight and resisted arrest.
Officials have identified the suspect as Nina Devillez, 31. Devillez has been charged with Evading Police, Criminal Trespass, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
