A Trigg County (Kentucky) Sheriff’s deputy was shot and wounded Tuesday morning after assisting Kentucky State Police with a vehicle pursuit.
KSP says the incident began when troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 24 eastbound and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.
Authorities say the pursuit continued into Trigg County, where deputies from the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office joined in pursuing the vehicle, WNKY reports.
The suspect’s vehicle crashed, KSP says. The suspect then reportedly ran away and began shooting at law enforcement, wounding one deputy.
Troopers say three deputies fired their agency-issued firearms, shooting the individual.
The suspect, identified as Jermaine Terrell Jackson Jr., 21, of Florissant, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The wounded deputy is in stable condition at a local hospital.
KSP is investigating.
