Philadelphia Officer Shot, Saved by Body Armor

Police say the suspect opened fire and an officer was hit in the hand and in his jacket, striking his body armor. Officers reportedly did not return fire.

A Philadelphia officer was shot in the right hand and in his body armor Monday night (Feb. 10, 2025). The suspect is dead.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel told local media that the incident began around 9 a.m. when two officers attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect, later identified by law enforcement as 29-year-old Brandon Williams, reportedly fled the attempted stop and crashed his vehicle, ABC6 reports.

Police say Williams opened fire and an officer was hit in the hand and in his jacket. Officers reportedly did not return fire.

The wounded officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspect was found dead. Officials believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
