Fargo Officer Wounded in 2023 Attack Returns to Duty

Months after he was critically wounded in an attack that killed another Fargo Police Officer, Officer Tyler Hawes is back on duty.

On July 14, 2023, a shooter ambushed Officer Tyler Hawes, Officer Zachary Robinson, Officer Andrew Dotas, and Officer Jake Wallin during a traffic crash. Wallin was killed. Hawes, Dotas, and a civilian woman were all critically injured, KFGO reports.

The shooter was killed by Officer Zachary Robinson in a nearly two-minute-long gunbattle.

Hawes says the day he was cleared was one week shy of 18 months. He underwent 19 surgeries and countess setbacks but Hawes’s determination never wavered. From the moment he could speak in the hospital, he made one thing clear, he was coming back to serve Fargo.

Officer Dotas is currently in reintegration training as he prepares to return to duty soon.
