Ridgefield PD said in a Facebook statement that Officer Steven Fernandez, a village native and longtime member of the department. He was described by Chief Joseph Rella as an "amazing person."
Fernandez joined the Police Department in 2015. Police said Fernandez worked in patrol until a year ago, when he was reassigned to the detective bureau.
Aside from working as a police officer, Fernandez volunteered many years with the Ridgefield Park Ambulance Corps and Fire Department, the post says. He was also the department's LGBTQ+ liaison, a registered nurse, an Eagle Scout and a member of the Masonic Lodge, the department says.
