A call about a “suicide in progress” Wednesday night led to a standoff and seven San Antonio officers being shot. The suspect is dead. All of the officers are expected to recover fully.
Police were called shortly before 8:30 p.m. "for a suicide in progress" before a "second call came in for shots being fired" at an apartment complex, NBC reports.
As officers arrived, "a female exited the apartment stating that the suspect was shooting inside, and he was coming out" according to the police statement.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, "then exited the apartment and opened fire on the responding officers, striking one officer in the leg," according to the SAPD.
He then proceeded to shoot six more officers more while barricaded in the property, San Antonio police said.
The suspect took cover back inside the apartment which touched off "several hours of negotiating, and other means to get the suspect to surrender peacefully," SAPD said.
Officers eventually got to the suspect, who was dead, though it wasn't immediately clear whether he had shot himself or was killed by police.
By Thursday afternoon six of the officers had been released from the hospital.
