After a pickup truck drove through a Bourbon Street crowd early New Year’s Day, killing 14 people and injuring 35, New Orleans Police officers approached the truck and came under fire from the driver.

The wounded officers have been identified as Officer Jacobie Jordan and Officer Joseph Rodrigue. Both men were shot in the thigh. Officer Rodrigue also suffered a fractured shoulder.

Video released Friday by the New Orleans Police Department shows the quick, sharp gunfight that killed the suspect and wounded two officers.
“At around 3:15 a.m. on January 1, several NOPD officers who were assigned to Special Event coverage for New Year’s Eve and the Sugar Bowl responded to an incident involving a white pickup truck in the 300 block of Bourbon Street. After the officers surrounded the pickup truck, the driver fired at them. Three officers – Sergeant Nigel Daggs and Officers Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan – returned fire. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene,” the department said in a release.
The wounded officers have been identified as Officer Jordan and Officer Joseph Rodrigue. Both men were shot in the thigh. Officer Rodrigue also suffered a fractured shoulder during the exchange. He did not fire his weapon at the suspect.
